The Baron d’Erlanger’s collection of ceramic and porcelain ware is interesting because of both the traditional Tunisian ceramics and the Chinese porcelain it contains. Most of the traditional Tunisian ceramic pieces in the collection were made in the famous Qallaline workshops in Tunis or Gammart: pots or mahbes, small jars or qolla...). They bear a distinctive decoration involving the use of three characteristic natural enamels, i.e. yellow made from antimony oxide, green obtained from copper oxide and manganese brown. Ceramic tiles used as wall cladding are represented although not in great quantities. Indeed, the only tile panels to be found are those decorating the kiosk walls in the Persian garden. The decorative repertoire, both floral and geometric, of these panels is particularly rich. Most of the porcelain objects (vase, pots, bowls, figurine, etc.) come from China. The tableware was produced in Europe.
