NEW PUBLICATION

The Center for Arab and Mediterranean Music "Ennejma Ezzahra" is pleased to announce the publication of a new collective book of 152 pages, entitled "The musical iconography in the Mediterranean countries at the time of the intensive digitization of images".

Presented by Frédéric Billiet (Professor at Sorbonne University) and Hamdi Makhlouf (Assistant professor at the Higher Institute of Music in Tunis), this book gathers the texts of the international symposium in iconography proceedings (September 20, 2019) at Ennejma Ezzahra Palace in Sidi Bou Saïd. It was also the occasion to celebrate the creation of the Tunisian iconographical database (http://tunicomus.cmam.tn) in partnership with the Musiconis program of Sorbonne University / IREMUS and the Labex RESMED laboratory.

The authors of this book, eminent specialists in musical iconography, discussed new challenges, especially technological ones, in the preservation and documentation of musical icons in the Mediterranean. They expose to this purpose the various digital databases they have gathered and opportunity they offer to emphasize the interoperability for a better understanding of the musical evolution through history.

The book contains an exhaustive bibliography and several coloured illustrations of some icons in Tunisia and on both shores of the Mediterranean.
